A Month for Mothers

When it comes to celebrating the women who give strength, support and encouragement to us every day of our lives, why not take every day to show them our appreciation? We believe that mother’s day is a great day to spoil that woman in your life that goes the extra mile, but we also know that mothers deserve to be celebrated every day!

Whether you’re celebrating a step mom, grandmother, or just a woman you admire in your life, treasure them with magical finds that speak louder than words. We have thoughtfully selected items from stores like Alia, TanJay, Suzanne’s, People’s and Paris Jewellery for every type of woman in your life. Hit the Starbucks, treat yourself to a latte, and hit the shops together with this shopping guide.

Mothers are magic, so let’s make every day sparkle for them this month. For ideas on how to make each day memorable, follow us on Instagram for a daily post centered around celebrating the women we love.

Make magic together

Time is the most precious commodity we have, and if you ask any mom, she’ll probably say the best gift you could give her is time well-spent together. As you come together as a family, DIY crafts and activities are a beautiful way to spend that precious resource making a memory. If you’re looking for kid friendly recipes that everyone can enjoy, look no further than these mom + me bath and beauty projects. Find all the ingredients you need right here at Lawson.

DIY essential oil bath bombs

Do you have a Keurig at home? Lots of little plastic containers you don’t know what to do with? This clever bath bomb recipe allows you to reuse the cups for miniature bath bombs for a project that is easy to do with the whole family.

·       2 tablespoons dried flowers or tea (chamomile or lavender works best)

·       8 ounces baking soda

·       4 ounces citric acid

·       4 ounces cornstarch

·       4 ounces Epsom salts

·       ¾ teaspoon water

·       2 teaspoons essential oil (lavender, orange, or peppermint)

·       2 ½ teaspoons almond oil

·       6 drops food coloring (optional)

1.     Sprinkle approximately 1/2 teaspoon of dried flowers or tea in the bottom of each cup if a decorative bath bomb is desired.

2.     In a large bowl, combine baking soda, citric acid, cornstarch, and Epsom salts.

3.     In a small bowl, whisk together water, essential oil, almond oil, and food coloring.

4.     Whisk wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir until the mixture begins to clump together. If needed, add one drop of water at a time to make the mixture clump.

5.     Press mixture into the cups. Allow to dry for 24 hours.

6.     Remove bath bombs from the cups by sliding a sharp knife into the small hole at the bottom of each cup. Slice a slit until the cup can be pulled away from the bath bomb.

7.     To use bath bombs: Place in a hot bath and enjoy!

Take a load off, mama

Every mom is looking for activities that can teach the kids some valuable life skills. To bring the family together and show your kids how helping out is often the best way to say “I love you”, here are 5 kid friendly chores that any age can do to help out around the house while doing something special for you. For an organized, easy set-up, print and laminate your own "chore chart" to keep on the fridge to reuse week after week.

1.     Feeding the pets

Cat, dog, guinea pig, mouse, lizard? If you have a little creature that is now part of the family, one of the most precious positions any child can have is Guardian of the Pet. Encourage your little one to fill the food dish, brush its hair, and even pick up those little “gifts” left behind.

2.     Watering the plants

Give a child a tiny version of something just for them, and they’re guarnanteed to love it. Pick up a small watering can and task out the chore of watering the plants on a specific day. With something to look forward to, you also teach how creating a routine creates health in the home!

3.     Weeding the garden

Kids + outdoors + dirty environment = a good time for them and an easier gardening task for you! You can get proper tools for the job and trust us, if you have a little perfectionist, they’ll spend hours out there making sure the yard is looking spotless.

4.     Dusting surfaces

Giving your little ones small tasks that are easy to do (with little risk of breaking something) is always a win. Give them a damp cloth and let them go to town. Sure, they’ll wipe down everything in sight, including your cat, but at least they’ll start to enjoy the art of cleaning!

5.     Washing dishes

No brainer! Water and suds is a recipe for a fun time for any little person! Fill the sink with warm water and let them go to town. Letting them wash their own cups and plates will teach them to be responsible for their own messes and take ownership of what’s theirs.

Cheers! To you, mom!
